    P.K. Agarwal was appointed the Director of the Department of Technology Services (now Office of Technology Services) in 2005.  During his tenure, he successfully consolidated multiple independent IT organizations, thus saving taxpayers $60 million dollars, and helped create an enterprise IT operation with a budget of over $200 million.  He has over 25 years of experience in government technology, spanning both the public and private sector.  Prior to his current job, he held positions of VP at ACS Inc, CIO and EVP for NIC Inc., and the CIO for the California Franchise Tax Board.  He began his professional career as a Management Consultant for EDS.

    He helped pioneer the use of Internet in government and shaped the national and state policy in this area, dating back to the National Information Infrastructure Advisory Council in 1995.  He has the unique distinction of having a U.S. national annual award named as the "P.K. Agarwal Award for Leadership in Electronic Government".  He also served as the president of National Association of State CIO's and the National Electronic Commerce Coordinating Council (ec3).  He writes and keynotes frequently on the topics of eGovernment, Web 2.0, and government transformation.  He also serves as a fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration.

    P.K. has a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from IIT, New Delhi, and Masters Degrees from California State University, Sacramento and UC, Berkeley.

    Matthew J. Cox is president of Matson Navigation Company.  Cox’s responsibilities encompass the five major divisions of Matson: ocean services, operations, Pacific, finance and IT services, as well as corporate development and planning, human resources and public relations. He also oversees Matson’s logistics subsidiary, Matson Integrated Logistics, as well as its terminal subsidiary in Honolulu, Matson Terminals.   Cox joined Matson in June 2001 as senior vice president and chief financial officer. In 2002, Cox assumed the additional role of controller and given added responsibilities for information services and corporate development. In 2005, he became executive vice president and chief operating officer. He had a key role in the start up of Matson’s China – Long Beach Express in 2006. In addition to his Matson responsibilities, Cox is also a member of the board of managers of SSAT. Prior to Matson, Cox had 15 years of experience in the transportation industry, 12 of which were spent at American President Lines, Ltd. (APL). From 1999 to 2001, he held executive posts at Distribution Dynamics, Inc., a provider of outsourced logistics, inventory management and integrated information systems based in Danville, California; he was the company's executive vice president and chief operating officer at the time he joined Matson. From 1987 to 1999, Cox held positions of increasing responsibility at APL, covering both financial and operational aspects of the company, including vice president, refrigerated container market; managing director, Middle East, Africa, Indian Subcontinent Region Dubai, United Arab Emirates; and director, financial support services. Cox has a B.S. in accounting and finance from the University of California, Berkeley and is a certified public accountant and a graduate of the Harvard Business School Advanced Management Program.

    Louis Ehrlich is President and Chief Information Officer of Information Technology for Chevron Corporation. In this capacity, he is responsible for setting and achieving Chevron's Information Technology strategy and providing information technology services worldwide. Chevron Information Technology is headquartered in San Ramon, California, with locations across the globe.

    A native of Pascagoula, Mississippi, Ehrlich earned a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1981, and a M.B.A. degree from Houston Baptist University in 1995.

    Ehrlich joined Chevron in 1981 as a Programmer Analyst in New Orleans, Louisiana. After serving in multiple technology positions of increasing scope and import, he was appointed Manager of Central Information Services for the Upstream Technology Company, supporting a global internal customer base.

    Subsequently, Ehrlich served Chevron in a variety of positions, including: Manager of Organization Renewal for the Upstream Technology Company, member of the Corporation's IT Vision Team, responsible for Chevron's Global Information Link (desktop/network standardization for improved enterprise information sharing), and Upstream Product and Service Manager for Chevron Information Technology Company.

    In 2000, he was named Chief Information Officer of Chevron's Downstream Marketing business. Upon the formation of the ChevronTexaco Corporation in 2001, Ehrlich was named Downstream Chief Information Officer and General Manager North America Products Company Information Technology.

    Ehrlich was appointed Chief Information Officer for Global Downstream in 2004, where he focused on enabling Chevron's strategy to achieve competitive advantage through proactive and strategic information technology investment, while delivering safe, reliable, secure and cost-effective services.

    In September 2006, Ehrlich was promoted to Vice President of Services and Strategy and Chief Information Officer for Chevron's Global Downstream operations which include: refining, supply and trading, lubricants, fuels marketing and convenience store retail operations. In that role, he was instrumental in defining, planning and executing Global Downstream's long-term strategic vision.

    Ehrlich is the Chairman of the CIO Executive Summit, and serves on the Board of Advisors for the CIO Executive Council. He is on the Advisory board of Lawrence Hall of Science, and sits on the Board of CIO Leadership Forum and the Advisory Council of the Research Board. He was the former chair of the General Committee on Information Management and Technology at API.



  • David Ernst

    David J. Ernst was appointed in July 2008 to the position
    of CIO and Associate VP for the University of California
    system in the Office of the President. In this role he provides
    leadership and support for IT planning and implementation
    at the system-wide level as well as supporting those
    activities on the ten University of California campuses. Major areas of focus
    include the creation of a UC cyber infrastructure serving teaching and research,
    as well as enabling administrative efficiencies through the strategic use of
    information technology.


    Ernst serves as Board Chair of the IMS Global Learning Consortium, Board
    Chair of the Corporation for Educational Networking Initiatives in California,
    and recently completed five years as a faculty member of the EDUCAUSE/
    CAUDIT Australian Management Institute. He also serves as a member of the
    Oracle Research and Education Advisory Board and the BlackBoard Client
    Strategy Council.


    Prior to his appointment at the University of California, Ernst was the CIO
    for California State University (CSU). He provided IT leadership for the
    23-campus, 420,000 student CSU system. His major focus included eight key
    academic technology initiatives, the final phases of implementation for higher
    education’s largest ERP project, and a comprehensive system-wide network
    infrastructure installation.

Specific areas of expertise include service/solution transformation, alliances/partnership, organizational restructuring, along with business and IT alignment. Porta joined IBM with the acquisition of PricewaterhouseCoopers Consulting.

    Diego Rodriguez is a pioneer, advocate, and practitioner of design thinking. He is a partner at IDEO and a founding professor and member of the board at the Hasso Plattner Institute of Design at Stanford (the d.school). A leading thinker on innovation in business, technology, and design, Diego leads IDEO’s Palo Alto location, working with design thinkers who span diverse disciplines in engineering, design, and business. He works with clients on issues involving venture design, organizational processes, and marketing. Diego pioneered a new discipline called Business Design, now a central part of the firm’s offering.

    At Stanford, Diego created a new paradigm for active learning in his class, “Creating Infectious Action,” where business, engineering, and social scientists use design thinking to prototype disruptive new offerings and services.

    Diego’s influential blog, Metacool, is an opinion leader on design, business, and “unabashed gearhead gnarliness.” Fast Company called the site, “…a must-read for anyone who wants to incorporate design thinking into their work.”

     

    Prior to IDEO, Diego held operating positions at Nissan, Hewlett-Packard, a software startup flameout, and Intuit. He is the recipient of a Chicago Athenaeum Good Design Award and holds multiple patents.

    Raoul Schuhmacher is the Sr. Director for Business Intelligence and Data Services at Electronic Arts and is responsible for the vision, delivery, and operational management of EA’s global data integration, master data management, data warehousing, and business intelligence solutions and services.

    Prior to joining EA, he held various senior IT management positions at Hewlett-Packard Co., and worked as an IT strategy and architecture consultant in Infosys Technologies’ Hi-Tech and Discrete Manufacturing industries practice.”

    Dennis Self is the CIO for Electronic Arts. Previously, Self served as the lead for Electronic Art's Europe IT and Asia IT teams from 2005 - 2007.
    Prior to joining Electronic Arts, Self held various positions at HP, and worked as an IT strategy consultant for Andersen Consulting (now Accenture), A.T. Kearney and Deloitte Consulting.
    Self holds a B.S. from Old Dominion University and an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago.



  • Jennifer Sepull

    As VP and CIO, Jennifer Sepull emphasizes the importance of thought leadership, innovation, communication, and the value of a strong partnership between the Information Systems Division (ISD) and the Honda business. She is responsible for leading all business applications, technology infrastructure, information security and the development of technology strategies and solutions for Honda's many business divisions.

    To help Honda leverage information services across North America and collaborate globally, Sepull also serves as the Chairman of Honda's Americas Information Systems Committee (AISC) and is an active member of the Honda Global Information Systems Committee (GISC).

    Sepull is accredited with a Law Degree from Chapman University. Her educational background also includes attending Cambridge University in England with a focus on International Legal and Business Studies and a B.A. in Criminal Justice from Chapman University.

    Most recently in her role of CIO for Old Navy, Diane is responsible for brand IT strategy, operations, technology and solution adoption. Diane led the brand reengineering effort to shorten the product pipeline by delivering a 28 week product to market process achieving continuous flow of trend right product, new work processes, roles and accountabilities. She is responsible to innovate the business through best practices demonstrating leading edge technologies in a retail environment to inspire future ways of operating and innovative customer services.    Diane has been responsible for the IT strategy, technology, application delivery, and operational support for Brand and Supply Chain business solutions.   She has been accountable for business relationship management, solution delivery, operational excellence and leadership to implement business capability throughout Product Design, Marketing, Merchandising, Inventory Management, and Supply Chain across brands and channels. Additionally, she has been key in outsourcing and integrating Gap Inc solutions with third party providers.   Diane brings wealth of IT Supply Chain experience obtained through American President Lines Inc. and Lockheed Missiles and Space Company. In her previous roles, she managed a global organization of IT professionals responsible for Logistics, Customer Service, Electronic Commerce, and International Operations, both solution delivery and technology management. Diane played key roles in company re-engineering, company acquisition and systems integration, and industry leadership.

    John Strain is the SVP and CIO for Williams-Sonoma, Inc. Strain joined Williams-Sonoma in 2006 and is responsible for the vision, delivery and operational management for all technology functions. During his tenure with Williams-Sonoma, Strain has been focused on evolving the PMO function, transitioning to an SOA strategy, rebuilding operational capabilities, replatforming the websites and improving the IT governance processes.

    Prior to Williams-Sonoma, Strain was Vice President of IT for Gap Inc. In this role, Strain was responsible for the technology strategy and delivery, including the award-winning re-platform, of all the Gap websites (gap.com, oldnavy.com, and bananarepublic.com). Prior to Gap, Strain was an Executive Vice President at Fort Point Partners, an eCommerce strategy and systems integration consultancy where he worked with premier companies such as J. Crew, Best Buy, Nike, Martha Stewart, Kmart/Bluelight.com, and Estee Lauder. Strain began his career at Andersen Consulting (now Accenture) where he worked in the San Francisco, Chicago and Tokyo offices.

    Strain is a graduate of Santa Clara University with a B.S. degree in Finance and was a member of the Retail Management Institute.

    Eilif Trondsen is the Research and Program Director of the Virtual Worlds @ Work (VWW), a research consortium for innovation and learning at SRI Consulting Business Intelligence (SRIC-BI) in Menlo Park, California. The focus area of his research and consulting at SRIC-BI—a spin-out of SRI International (formerly Stanford Research Institute)—is the use of technology for business performance improvement and learning. He has 30 years' experience at SRIC-BI and at SRI International, leading or contributing to a variety of projects for U.S. and foreign clients in the private and public sectors. For ten years, Eilif held the position of Research Director of the Business Intelligence Program (now the Scan program) at SRI and currently leads VWW (www.sric-bi.com/vww). In his tenure at SRI and SRIC-BI, Eilif has given numerous presentations on various eCommerce, eLearning and virtual worlds topics at conferences and to SRI clients around the world. Eilif has also the author and co-author of numerous publications on eCommerce, eLearning and virtual world topics. He also serves as co-chair of the SDForum’s SIG on virtual worlds and a member of the Virtual Worlds Roadmapping Initiative.   Before joining SRI, Eilif researched oil and gas leasing policies—with a focus on the North Sea—funded by the Norwegian Research Council. He has also taught economics at San Jose State University, Chabot College, and Saint Mary’s College. He received his M.A. in economics from San Jose State University and his Ph.D. in economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

    Jeff Turner joined Cost Plus World Market in September 2007 and is currently the Senior Vice President Supply Chain and Chief Information Officer. Turner is responsible for all aspects of Distribution, Logistics and Information Technology at Cost Plus. As SVP Supply Chain and CIO, Turner reports to Barry Feld, Chief Executive Officer, and is a member of the Senior Leadership Team. Turner has over 25 years of information technology experience, as well as 18 years of retail industry experience.   Prior to joining Cost Plus World Market, Turner served as the Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer for Restoration Hardware from June 2004 to September 2007. Turner also held senior level information technology positions at Levi Strauss & Co. and Gap Inc. from 1991 to 2004. He served as the Vice President, Global and North America Development at Levi Strauss & Co. from August 2001 to February 2004, and he served from September 1991 to July 2001 in a variety of roles at Gap Inc. culminating in the position of Vice President, Global Store Technology. Turner began his career in management consulting with Arthur Andersen (now Accenture) in 1984. Turner is a graduate of California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo with a B.S. in Business Administration and Information Systems.

    Peter F. Weis is vice president and chief information officer (CIO) of Matson Navigation Company in Oakland, California. Matson's transportation offerings span the globe from Shanghai to Savannah and encompass everything from providing a vital lifeline to the island economies of Hawaii, Guam and Micronesia to delivering a wide range of multi-modal services throughout North America. Founded in 1882, Matson is a wholly owned subsidiary of Honolulu-based Alexander & Baldwin, Inc. (NYSE: ALEX). Weis has over 25 years of IT experience in the fields of transportation, logistics and supply chain management. As Matson’s CIO since 2003, Weis is responsible for driving the company’s IT strategy, ensuring that maximum value is achieved for both tactical and strategic IT investments.  He continues to lead Matson’s multi-year strategic IT investment cycle, which is aimed at refreshing Matson’s entire applications portfolio in order to enable business growth, reduce costs, and eliminate technology risks. Weis also provides IT services for Matson’s two subsidiaries, Matson Integrated Logistics and Matson Terminals. From 2000 to 2003, Weis was vice president of products at GT Nexus, a provider of transportation management and supply chain software solutions targeting Fortune 500 global enterprises, ocean carriers, and service providers. His responsibilities included analyzing target markets, setting product development strategy, defining and designing new products, and working with the sales team and key accounts on strategic opportunities. From 1985 to 2000, Weis worked for APL in a number of key IT positions, the last five of which were spent as vice president and chief information officer, APL Logistics. As CIO of APL Logistics, Weis had worldwide responsibility for the company’s IT organization supporting nearly 1,000 global users in 100 offices. He also led the building of its technology vision and strategy, including new products, alliance relationships, and revenue opportunities. Prior to this CIO role, Weis held a number of increasingly senior positions, including senior director, APL business information systems. This position involved worldwide support for all of APL’s applications and over 3,000 users, in a mainframe and client/server environment. Prior to joining APL, Weis held technical positions with General Electric Consulting, Charles Schwab & Co., and Dow Chemical Corp. Weis is a past recipient of the Computerworld Premier 100 IT Leaders award. He is a graduate of U.C. Berkeley and holds an MBA from the Wharton School.

    Ed White is the Director of Teradata Product Marketing, managing a team responsible for the global marketing of Teradata products and programs. Ed has 20 years experience in the computer industry. He began his career as a sales representative in NCR’s Retail Systems Division in 1986 in California. He held a number of strategic sales positions at NCR, and after the merger with AT&T he worked as a corporate strategic planning manager in Dayton, Ohio. In 1995, Ed joined the marketing team in San Diego, responsible for Scalable Data Warehouse Marketing Programs. From 1998-2000, Ed was instrumental in building Teradata’s first-ever Channel Partner team. Ed then joined internet start-up BeXcom as Senior Director of Marketing and Business Development. In 2001, Ed joined Clarkston Consulting and was instrumental in building their consulting practice on the West Coast. Ed rejoined Teradata in 2003 as Regional Sales Director for the Retail West region. Ed has earned an MBA from San Diego State University and a Bachelors Degree in Business from San Diego State University
