John has dual responsibility for CNA’s Information Technology and Worldwide Operations organizations. In this role as CIO, John is responsible for the global information technology strategy and all of the company’s IT assets including: company-wide application development, data management, technology infrastructure, and data center operations. In conjunction with his leadership of IT, John has responsibility for CNA back office business processes for the insurance operations.  This includes policy administration, customer contact centers, premium audit, and billing and collections.

Under John’s leadership, the organization has been recognized over the years by Agency Management partners with innovative solution awards, Computerworld magazine 100 best places to work, CIO 100, Insurance & Technology and InformationWeek 500. John’s vision and leadership approach has garnered him recognition in the industry as The Executives’ Club of Chicago CIO of the Year, Insurance and Technology Elite Award winner. In addition, John has spoken at numerous industry forums on wearing both “hats” of IT and business operations, and how a CIO operates as a key senior leader in the enterprise.

Before joining CNA in 2001, John spent nearly 15 years in the telecom industry, beginning his career in IT, and then expanding into business operations and product management roles. Previously, John was with Ameritech/SBC where he was responsible for delivering the company’s Customer Care and Billing IT capabilities for approximately 30 million customers across Ameritech’s regions.

Prior to SBC, John spent six years at GTE (now part of Verizon), where he held a variety of technical and management positions and pioneered GTE’s “commercialization” of their Carrier Access system to international telephone companies.
